PERSONALITY:
A cheerful, upbeat young woman, Serengeral is remarkably chatty for someone who is voluntarily mute. Those who approach her with sincerity are greeted like an old friend, with warm smiles and welcoming arms. Those who stick around will find her gentle and compassionate, with an all-encompassing love for the good things and people in life.
BACKSTORY:
Twenty-five years before the Seventh Umbral Calamity, the Garlemald Empire arrived upon Doma's doorstep with fire and steel. Its king, Kaien Rijin, bent the knee to the invading powers without a fight; nonetheless, many of its people chose to flee from what they saw as dark days approaching their beloved kingdom. So it was that a certain Raen Au Ra couple, their names now forgotten, chose to take their newborn babe and strike out East, into the relative safety of Hingashi.
But fate did not look kindly upon them.Hounded by Imperial patrols and their meager supplies dwindling, the ragged family was forced to run North, enduring harsh weather, deprivation, and attacks from soldiers and bandits alike. It was at the southern edge of the Azim Steppe, near the town of Reunion, that they at last succumbed to their wounds and exhaustion. They were dead by the time a patrol from the Qestir tribe encountered them, their only legacy the rags on their back and an infant swaddled in dirty clothes. The Qestiri chose to adopt the pale-horned babe as one of their own. They named her "Serengeral", meaning "Moonlight", on account of the bright full moon shining overhead the night they found her, and later nicknamed her "Alaan", or "Red", for the blood-red color of her hair.-And so the child of the One River grew amidst a sea of grass.Serengeral's childhood was as comfortable as one could be for life on the Azim Steppe. Her adoptive parents, Altangeral and Odbaatar, loved her as one of their own children, and raised her with care alongside her new siblings Ganzorig, Altantuyaa, and Naranbaatar. From her new family she learned how to live life on the steppes: to care for the flock and to weave their wool, to barter for what is needed, to make food to last the winter, to ride a horse and, when needed, to defend herself. Yet she rarely knew war, for few dared to attack the unspeaking Xaela tribe, and she adopted the Qestiri customs, including the shunning of spoken words, for words said by the mouth are all lies. She loved her adopted family, and they loved her back. In her heart, however, she wondered what lay beyond the endless verdant sea of the Azim Steppes. Serengeral knew that she was not of Qestiri blood--her pale horns and scales a constant reminder--and every time a foreign merchant visited the Qestiri trade-town of Reunion, she wondered what their homelands must be like. Thus, on her 25th nameday, when her parents once again pointed out it was past time for her to marry and settle down, she instead chose to set out on her own.It was a bittersweet parting for both parties, but sooner or later they acknowledged it was for the best. Bidding the only home she'd ever known goodbye, Serengeral took passage with a Hingashi caravan heading back South, and eventually made her way to Eorzea after having heard much about the promises of adventure there. For all her travels, though, it was a fateful encounter near Gridania where her adventure truly began...but that is another story.

Over the course of her travels, Serengeral has dabbled in many of the star's greatest forms of combat, from Nymian Scholarship to the mathematical techniques of the Skysteel Machinists, from the brutal axework of the Warrior to the subtle mysteries of the Ninja. Several disciplines, however, are of particular importance to her.WHITE MAGE
Upon arriving in Gridania, Serengeral was quickly drawn to the art of Conjury, noting its similarities to the healing traditions she practiced among the Qestir. Having grown up around wind and stone, she took to E-Sumi-Yan's teaching easily, and embraced her new role as a White Mage as her mastery over White Magic grew.
Alas, for all her skill, she could not save the one she loved most when the time came.---ASTROLOGIAN
When her beloved Sir Haurchefant Greystone lay bleeding before her that fateful day in the Vault, Serengeral learned a terrible lesson: there are some wounds that cannot be healed, no matter the healer's power. [Better to avert such harms from happening entirely,] she thought to herself in the miserable days afterwards, [than to try and recover what cannot be recovered.]
It was this desire to bend fate that drove her to take on Astrology. From now on, Serengeral would not merely heal wounds, but evade them entirely. If Fate would deal her a bitter hand, then she would fight to draw a better one.[If I were faster, would he still be alive? If I were stronger, could I have saved him? If only, if only, if only...]---DANCER
The art of the dance, to paint a picture with her movements upon the canvas of music, has long been Serengeral's greatest passion. Indeed, in another life she might have traveled the breadth of Hydaelyn in a dance troupe instead of with the Scions of the Seventh Dawn.
So when a certain Thanvairian troupe visited Limsa Lominsa one day, it was practically destiny that Serengeral would learn the art of the Kriegstanz.
